West Indies are now in Bangladesh in a bid to play three ODIs alongside two Tests. However, their recent records in Bangladesh are not quite satisfactory. On top of that, this time they are also without some of their most experienced players. Given all this, the tourists are considering Bangladesh as the 'clear favourites'.
In a press conference on Tuesday (January 12), West Indies coach Phil Simmons admitted that Bangladesh are the favourites in this series without any doubt.
"Bangladesh are the clear favourites, because they play very good on their home turf. We cannot afford to disagree with this."
However, the Caribbean coach also made it clear that the youngsters of his side will not allow the home team to have an easy ride.
"Experience is definitely very important. But at times, enthusiasm and hunger can even trump the experience," he said.
In response to a question from BDCricTime, Simmons said his team is not thinking about the Test Championship, and their full focus is on winning the series. If prepared well, there is a possibility for them to win the it.
"In any series, the first and foremost goal is to win the series. But it is also difficult to win away from home. Look at the entire world, every team plays well at home. So this is going to be a challenging series.
"Our first target is to win the series. Secondly, we need to provide the players with match playing opportunity, and the chance to prepare themselves. If prepared well, we can do well in both Dhaka and Chattogram. Then we will also have the chance to seal the series," concluded Simmons.
