Bangladesh supporters had high hope for their country before the World Cup. Especially after Shakib Al Hasan got the captaincy, the expectations of many were sky high. It was expected that Bangladesh, flying in the ODI Super League, would do well in the familiar conditions of India. But they are crushed by hope. Shakib Al Hasan's team seems to be going against everything. Yet every match Bangladeshi fans turn up in the gallery, sit in front of the TV screen.
Bangladesh won the first match against Afghanistan. But in the second match, Bangladeshi bowlers were badly beaten by England. After the defeat of that match, the Tigers could not turn around. They lost six matches in a row.
In the seventh match, they lost to Pakistan by seven wickets. Shakib admitted at the end of the match that the collapse was due to their inability to perform as a team. However, Shakib is still hoping to turn around in the last two matches.
“In this stage, changing too many things seems difficult. We are trying to force things but it isn't working. At this moment, we have to perform together, which is not happening. We are looking for answers but aren't getting it,” Shakib said.
Bangladesh's last two matches are against Sri Lanka and Australia. Shakib wants to win these matches and put a smile on the faces of the fans. “Everywhere we go, fans come to the ground and are always behind us. They are our biggest strength. We have to give something back to them so they can smile,” he added.
