The New Zealand national cricket team kick-started their campaign with four straight wins and were one of the formidable forces in the competition. Nevertheless, they failed to bring the best out of themselves in the last three games of the tournament as they lost three games in a row.
India, Australia and South Africa in the recent meetings. Having played seven games so far, they won four and lost three. Currently, they are fourth on the points table with 8 points at a Net Run Rate of +0.484.
The Black Caps lost to TeamThe New Zealand cricket team will lock horns with the Pakistan cricket team on November 4, Saturday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. New Zealand put up a great fight against India and Australia but they failed to showcase their mettle against South Africa in Pune.
Batting first, South Africa posted 357/4 in their quota of 50 overs with the help of Rassie van der Dussen's 133, Quinton de Kock's 114 and David Miller's 53. In reply, New Zealand were bowled out for 167. South Africa won the game by a humongous margin of 190 runs. They are on top of the points table.
After the game, New Zealand's interim captain, Tom Latham admitted that it was not their best performance. "Not our best performance. We were under pressure after that partnership between de Kock and Rassie. It was a big score. From the batting point of view, we had to have those partnerships, but we had our back against the wall. Those two played fantastically well. Should have restricted them to 330-odd, that would have been better," he said after the match.
Furthermore, he said, "It was a small ground and a good surface, but we couldn't do much in those first 10 overs. I think they put themselves in a great position, we were not able to build partnerships, that was disappointing. We have faced adversities with injuries. We will reflect on to this one quickly and move to the next one to be played at Bangalore vs Pakistan. We don't become a bad team overnight," he concluded.
