Kolkata: Varun Chakravarthy produced a crucial double-wicket over during the first T20I of the five-match series between India and England at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday. The mystery spinner delivered a game-changing spell in the 8th over, dismissing Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone, leaving England's batting order in disarray.
Chakravarthy, who went wicketless in his first over, came back strongly in his second to pick two big wickets. His deceptive deliveries outfoxed the English batters, both of whom failed to read his mysterious variations.
On the third ball of the 8th over, Harry Brook misjudged a well-disguised googly from Chakravarthy. The spinner bowled it wide of the crease, pitching it on a length outside off. Brook, trying to create some room, got an inside edge onto his pads, and the ball ricocheted onto the stumps. This crucial breakthrough ended a threatening partnership between Brook and Jos Buttler, putting India back in control.
Just two balls later, Chakravarthy struck again. This time, it was Liam Livingstone, who completely misread another googly while attempting an ambitious drive through the off-side. The ball turned sharply, sneaking past his bat and crashing into the leg stump. The dismissal left Livingstone walking back for a duck, and the Eden Gardens crowd erupted in celebration.

India had earlier made an impressive start, with Arshdeep Singh dismantling England's top order by removing openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett in his first two overs. Despite a brief partnership between Brook and Buttler, Chakravarthy's double strike put England on the back foot once again.
