India’s first Test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 got off to a shaky start, with star batter Virat Kohli failing to make an impact. Playing at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Kohli managed just five runs before being dismissed by Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood.
The Indian innings faced early trouble, losing both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal for ducks, before Kohli’s departure further compounded the team’s woes. Hazlewood, bowling the 17th over, delivered a short ball that rose sharply, catching Kohli off guard. The ball nipped away from length and caught the edge of Kohli’s bat as he attempted a forward press. The ball was safely caught by Usman Khawaja at first slip, leaving India at 32/3.
