IPL 2025 got off to a great start with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a score of 7 wickets in the first match. Even though Phil Salt got RCB off to a great start, it was Virat Kohli's historic achievement that stole the show.
Kohli was still unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes as they tried to reach 175. More importantly, his 38th run made him the first player in IPL history to score 1,000 or more runs against four different teams. At the previous times, it happened against Delhi Capitals (1,057 runs), Chennai Super Kings (1,053 runs), and Punjab Kings (1,030 runs). Kohli is in a class by himself now that he has scored over 1,000 runs against KKR.
Even more important, this was Kohli's 400th T20 match, which made the accomplishment even more impressive. David Warner (KKR and PBKS) and Rohit Sharma (KKR and DC) hold the record for most IPL runs scored against more than two teams. No other bowler comes close. As for batters, Shikhar Dhawan is the only one who has made 1,000 runs against Chennai Super Kings.
When Phil Salt hit 56 off of 31 balls, he took the game away from KKR early and set up RCB's run chase. At the beginning of the game, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane's fifty helped his team score 174/8. RCB, on the other hand, easily reached the target and won with 22 balls to spare.
