Australia's Travis Head wins Men's Player of the Month for the first time after showing knockout heroics at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
Australia's World Cup-winning star Travis Head has been named the ICC Player of the Month for November 2023 following his brilliant run of success throughout the month.
Head was nominated for his first ICC Men's Player of the Month award back in June 2023 for his role as chief architect in Australia's ICC World Cup final win against India. This month he goes one step further and wins the award after two remarkable performances in the knockout stages helped them to their sixth Men's Cricket World Cup title.
Head beat tough competition from teammate Glenn Maxwell and Indian seamer Mohammed Shami to take the honour.
Maxwell scored an all-time great double century against Afghanistan during the World Cup, while Shami made a brilliant run with the ball in the same tournament.
But it was Head's 220 ODI runs in November - which included a half-century and a century - that proved the difference, with the left-hander winning his first Player of the Month award.
However, his crowning achievement came with the final triumph over India. An economical bowling performance and a phenomenal running catch in the outfield that saw Rohit Sharma dismissed preceded an outstanding performance with the bat that secured the silver trophy.
Scoring 241 for the win, Head cemented his growing reputation as a player for the big event by scoring a brilliant 137 in 120 balls to help Australia defeat the tournament hosts.
Commenting on his award win, Head said: "It's been an incredible 12 months for the team and it's been a real privilege to be a part of it." The way we enjoyed a home summer, away trips to India, England, South Africa, India and Getting to the World Cup was a great honor for Pat, the players and the staff.
“I was lucky that they were able to keep the faith in me for the World Cup even after I broke my hand, so this was a great opportunity for me to pay them back. I felt like the World Cup was one of the best I've ever attended. That's perhaps why resting before each season is key.
“It is a great honor to be recognized with this award, but it is a team effort. This wouldn’t have happened without my teammates across all formats; So these kinds of awards are as important to them as they are to me.”
