India pacer Mohammed Siraj has broken his silence regarding the heated exchange with Australia’s Travis Head during Day 2 of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval. The incident occurred after Siraj dismissed Head, who had been in fine form, scoring a blistering 140 off 141 balls. Following the wicket, Siraj gave Head a fiery send-off, sparking controversy, particularly after the Australian batter claimed he had only said "well-bowled" to Siraj.
In a press conference, Travis Head commented on the situation, saying, “I said 'well-bowled' but he thought otherwise. When he pointed me to the shed, he got a little bite back from me. Slightly disappointed with how it transpired. It is what it is. If they want to act like that and that's how they're going to represent themselves, then so be it.”
However, Siraj, in a conversation with Harbhajan Singh on Star Sports, dismissed Head’s claim, accusing the Australian of lying. Siraj explained his side of the story:
"I was enjoying bowling to him. It was a good battle because he batted really well. When a batter hits you for a six on a good ball, it feels bad. That gave me energy. After bowling him out, I celebrated. Then he abused me. You can see on TV as well. In the start, it was my celebration. I didn't say anything to him. In the press conference, he said the wrong thing. He lied. No way he said well-bowled."
Siraj also expressed his displeasure with Head’s actions, stating, "We respect everyone. I always respect everyone because cricket is a gentleman's game. Travis Head's actions were wrong. I did not feel good."
In addition to clearing up the controversy, Siraj spoke with confidence about India’s resilience as a team, emphasizing their ability to make comebacks in challenging situations. "The Indian team knows how to make a comeback really well. We never give up. Whenever we fall, we keep the strength to get back up. We are always positive that we can score runs from any position and even win the contest. We will take the field with a positive mindset, and whatever God has planned for us, we will get that," Siraj concluded.
