Unprecedented floods have swept through several regions of Bangladesh, leaving millions of lives at risk. The heart-wrenching disaster has left countless people stranded, with their homes and livelihoods washed away by the relentless waters.
Far away in Pakistan, cricketer Towhid Hridoy’s heart aches for his people. The young cricketer, known for his fighting spirit, believes that just as Bangladesh has overcome challenges before, the nation will rise again by the grace of Allah. Hridoy urges everyone to step up and help those affected by the floods.
"What should I write? What is appropriate?" Towhid Hridoy struggles to find the words. Districts like Khagrachari, Cumilla, and Feni are underwater, their well-organized homes and villages swept away by the swift currents. Just as the country was recovering from one crisis, it has now been plunged into another. In this trying time, Hridoy calls on everyone to stand by the flood victims.
Currently in Pakistan with the Bangladesh A team, Hridoy feels helpless, unable to physically be there for those suffering in his homeland. He expressed his frustration in a heartfelt Facebook post, writing, "I feel helpless when I can’t directly support my country during a disaster. I’ve sent my friends; they will work on the ground, but is it enough? We have to do whatever we can. Everyone must come forward. Not just now, but even after the water recedes, we must continue to support the flood victims with boats, medicine, clean water, and dry food—whatever we can provide."
Hridoy, drawing inspiration from Bangladesh’s history of resilience, remains hopeful that the nation will once again overcome adversity. He urges everyone to come forward and contribute in whatever way possible.
He wrote, "It’s okay. We know how to fight. We’ve been doing it since our birth as a nation, and we’ll do it again. Allah will protect us, Inshallah. A disaster has occurred, and now it's time for the entire nation to come together and face it. We can’t just sit back; we all need to step up."
Nurul Hasan Sohan, another Bangladeshi cricketer, was deeply moved by the photo Hridoy posted. Sharing the image, Sohan wrote, "Seeing this picture makes me feel completely helpless. Allah, please help them in this situation."
