Bangladesh’s favorite format, ODI cricket, has often been a source of pride. Despite recent struggles in Tests, the Tigers aim to bounce back with a series win in the upcoming ODIs. However, injury concerns are mounting, with key players dropping out one after another. After Mushfiqur Rahim’s confirmed absence, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is doubtful, and now promising young batter Towhid Hridoy’s participation is also uncertain due to an injury.
Hridoy sustained a groin injury during practice in his hometown, Bogura. According to a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official, the selectors are awaiting his medical report before announcing the squad.
With Mushfiqur, Hridoy, and Shanto all battling injuries, Bangladesh’s batting unit is under significant pressure. Mushfiqur and Shanto are already ruled out of the Test series against West Indies, and their availability for the ODIs remains highly doubtful.
While Mushfiqur is almost certain to miss the ODI series as well, the wait continues for Shanto’s medical update. Hridoy, too, is a major concern, leaving the selectors and BCB to delay announcing the final ODI squad.
The absence of Mushfiqur Rahim, potentially alongside skipper Shanto and Hridoy, has left Bangladesh facing a tough challenge before the ODI series. With three pivotal players in doubt, the Tigers’ preparation looks shaky.
A senior BCB official told Cricbuzz, "He (Hridoy) suffered a groin injury and as a result we are waiting for the medical report.”
Fans will now anxiously wait to see how Bangladesh reorganizes their lineup amidst this injury crisis.
