Bangladesh’s Test squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies is grappling with significant challenges. Experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim and regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto are out due to injuries, leaving a young and relatively inexperienced team to face a tough opponent. Only five players in the 15-member squad have played more than 15 Test matches, with newcomers like Ankon, Zakir, and Dipu yet to debut in whites, and Murad awaiting his first Test appearance.

Despite the lack of experience, senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin is optimistic about the team’s prospects.

Salahuddin attributes his confidence to the players’ spirited attitude and dedication during practice sessions. In a video shared on the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Facebook page, he praised the players' commitment and work ethic.
“This squad is relatively inexperienced, but what excites me most is their motivation to perform well. The desire to excel in Test cricket is evident, and that’s what matters the most. I’m truly impressed with their work ethic,” said Salahuddin.

Reflecting on his earlier coaching stint in the West Indies, Salahuddin expressed admiration for the team’s focus and preparation. “It’s been nearly 14 years since I last came to the West Indies, where I began my international coaching journey. Watching the players train with purpose and determination gives me immense satisfaction. They’ve improved significantly compared to before,” he remarked.

Salahuddin highlighted how each player is working on their individual limitations, an encouraging sign for building a cohesive team. “The players are ambitious and are working hard to overcome their shortcomings. This mindset gives me hope that we can evolve into a stronger Test-playing nation,” he added.

With the two-match Test series set to begin on November 22 at 8 PM Bangladesh time, the young squad has a chance to make their mark. The second match will take place from November 30, presenting a crucial opportunity for Bangladesh to establish their standing in Test cricket.
