The horror show from the opening batters
After being put into bat first, Bangladesh had a barren start. The conditions were always with the quick bowlers and Ireland swing bowlers made the best use of the condition and new ball. Joshua Little after coming back to the squad from IPL commitment trapped Litton Das LBW in the very first over for a duck. While, the skipper Tamim Iqbal saw himself in the hands of Lorcan Tucker off Mark Adair for a 19 ball 14 and Bangladesh were stuttering 15-2. Bangladesh marquee all rounder Shakib Al Hasan too was insipid on the occasion as he made only 20 off 21 before getting knocked out by Graham Hume.
After the new ball storm Bangladesh lost 3 early wickets but Nazmul Hossain Shanto did see the storm properly since then. He scored a sedate but vital 44 off 66 balls with a strike rate of 66.67. He smashed 7 boundaries in his innings. After the departure of Nazmul Shanto, the young gun Towhid Hridoy and the veteran campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim tried to up the ante. Hridoy scored a 31 ball 27 before getting out by Graham Hume. But his partner Mushfiqur Rahim and the new batter in Mehedi Miraz didn't stop their intentions. Mushfiqur Rahim notched up his fifty and scored a fine 61 off 70 balls. While Mehedi Miraz made 29 from 34 deliveries.
A tortoise finish
Middle order heroics went in vein as they couldn’t finish high. After the departure of Mushfiq and Miraz, Bangladesh faltered to upgrade their run rate. Taijul's 14 off 36 and Shariful's 16 off 15 balls helped Bangladesh score only 246-9 on the board after 50 overs.
Joshua Little was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland in his comeback match in green shirt as he picked up 3 wickets conceding 61 from his 10 over quota. While Graham Hume and Mark Adair got 2 apiece. Curtis Campher and Docrell got 1 respectively.
Ireland's chase tale and rain's emergence
Chasing the total, Ireland lost their opening stand inside the 5 overs as they were stuttering 27-2. Delany and Tector tried to salvage the respect and score some as their stand added 36 runs before Delany was caught and bowled by Taijul Islam. And then the drizzles started and the sky was getting lot darker, more thunder and more rain came as the result of drizzles. The umpires waited for 2 hours but things didn’t change. For some time the rain stopped but the drainge system isn't upto the mark to start the match which enforced umpires to call the match off.
