India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, expressed immense pride in his team’s 3-1 series win over South Africa, calling it a special moment in his captaincy. After a convincing 135-run victory in the fourth and final T20I at Johannesburg on November 15, Suryakumar praised the team for sticking to the game plan and executing their strategies effectively.
India, who won the toss and chose to bat first, posted an imposing total of 283/1, with stellar knocks from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma. In reply, South Africa faltered early as Arshdeep Singh claimed three crucial wickets upfront. The Indian bowlers maintained pressure throughout, bowling out South Africa for just 148 runs, sealing a dominant win.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Suryakumar reflected on the relaxed mindset of the team, stating that they weren't overly concerned about the result since they already led the series 2-1.
"It's very difficult for me to choose one good knock from them, we spoke about that and they literally walked the talk. When we toured last year, we knew there was something in this wicket once the lights were on and the temperature dropped.
"It gives a big boost if you are winning any ICC tournament. It was difficult to sum up what goes through our minds when we won there. It is very challenging when we tour South Africa, this is a special win and will stay with me forever."
Suryakumar also praised the coaching staff for allowing the players the freedom to make decisions and play their natural game. "They (coaching staff) were sitting and enjoying the show, they spoke to the boys and said whatever you want, you do, we will sit and enjoy. Even today, they said if you want to bat first and put runs on the board, do it," Suryakumar Yadav said.
