This year's Ashes was full of excitement and anxiety. However, due to slow over-rate both England and Australia had to be punished at the end of the series. Along with the penalty, they were also deducted World Test Championship points.
In the Test Championship, teams get 12 points for winning a Test match. A possible 60 points were in front of the two teams in the five-match series. Both England and Australia gpt equal 28 points. However, after the deduction of points, England have 9 points left, and Australia have 18 points. In a global tournament like the Test Championship, so many points can become important at any time.
Broad is very unhappy with the ICC's point deduction rules. Speaking to the British media Daily Mail, Broad said, “It diminishes the relevance of the World Test Championship, to be honest. It’s been one of the most entertaining series of all time, and for England to come out with nine points from a possible 60, the system’s wrong and needs looking at.”
Earlier, Aussie opener Usman Khawaja vented his anger about the deduction of points in a tweet. Former cricketers, however, have given their opinion in favor of such a punishment. A few days ago former England captain and current popular commentator Nasser Hussain advocated stricter punishment for -slow over-rates.
