Sri Lankan cricketers sanctioned for slow over-rate in third ODI

Sri Lankan cricketers are fined with 40 percent of their match fees for maintaining slow over rate in the third ODI against West Indies.
Sri Lanka have completed the white ball fixtures of their outing in the West Indies. Unfortunately, the visitors managed to win only one game out of six games they played with the white ball. The hosts claimed the T20I and ODI series with 2-1 and 3-0 leads respectively.
By losing the ODI series, Sri Lanka have lost eight consecutive away ODI series till now. Apart from the humiliating series defeat, the visitors are punished by the International Cricket Council for the on-field activities on the ground.
Sri Lankan players are punished with 40 percent of their match fees of the third ODI for maintaining a slow over-rate. Richie Richardson, the match referee for the game imposed sanctions on the visiting team as they were late by two overs in the allocated time period.
In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players will be punished with 20 percent of their match fees for every over they are behind the standard timeline.
The slow over rate has also affected the points table of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. Dimuth Karunaratne and co will be losing two points in the points column for the above sanctions. As per Article 12.9.1 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League Playing Conditions, a side is penalized one point for each over short.
