Sri Lanka allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga has retired from Test cricket so he can play for his country longer as a "limited-overs specialist."
Earlier reports said that Hasaranga had written to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to say that he wanted to play only white-ball cricket and do his best for the national team in both types of cricket going forward. The board seems to have agreed to his request, so he is no longer a Test player.
“We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be a vital part of our white-ball program going forward," Ashley De Silva, CEO of SLC, released a statement on Tuesday.

In the past few years, a number of players have stopped playing red-ball cricket and only play white-ball cricket. Moeen Ali, who plays for England, is one of the best-known cricketers to do this. The all-rounder stopped playing long-form cricket in 2021 so he could focus on white-ball cricket. He did come out of retirement to help England with the Ashes this year, but after the five-Test series against Australia, he chose not to play any more Tests again.
