South Africa thrashed Afghanistan by 9 wickets on Thursday (27th June) at Brian Lara Cricket Stadium, Trinidad and reached to the finals of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Proteas dismantled Afghanistan for a paltry 56 runs earlier on. Marco Jansen and other pacers ran riot through the Afghan's batting lineup to bundle them out for a measly 56 runs. In reply, captain Aiden Markram stood tall and scored a crucial 23* off 21 deliveries, along with Reeza Hendricks' 29 off 25 balls steered them through the final of any Cricket world cup for the very first time.
Afghanistan crumbled infront of a quality protea attack and under such pressure. Marco Jansen started it by removing Gurbaz for a 3 ball duck, he then had Gulbadin Naib. Rabada removed Ibrahim Zadran and Afghanistan were succumbing to pressure.
The pitch was slow and ball was coming low, which made things tough for Afghanistan and they couldn’t soak the pressure. Azmatullah Omarzai's 10 off 12 deliveries is their highest individual score in the match, Rashid Khan scored 8 and then Karim Janat made 8 which came as second and third highest individual scores.
It was a fast bowling masterclass by South Africa, dismantling the top - middle and lower order in blink of eyes and restricting Afghanistan to a below par total. Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi were the standout bowlers as both shared 3 wickets each, while Rabada and Anrich Nortje had 2 wickets each.
In reply, Quinton De Kock fell cheaply but that didn’t halt Africa's from cruising to the victory.
Afghanistan's bowlers bowled valiantly but the target was too low to defend it. Aiden Markram stood tall and Reeza Hendricks joined hands with them. Both of them saw boundaries coming to their way after getting settled in and motored to the win.
South Africa's semi-final jinx is over and that happened with insane domination both with bat and ball and they're through the final for the very first time in ICC World Cups.
