Bangladesh's rising batting sensation Towhid Hridoy scored a century against India in Bangladesh's first ICC Champions Trophy 2025 encounter.
Bangladesh lost five wickets for 35 runs, but Hridoy and Jaker Ali Anik put together a crucial 154-run partnership to save the team from a massacre. The 23-year-old scored 100 runs off 118 balls in a calm but daring performance.
Harsha Bhogle, a veteran Indian commentator and Bangladesh cricket enthusiast praised Hridoy's quality and tenacity after seeing the match. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bhogle wrote: "Been hearing about Towhid Hridoy for a couple of years now and frankly, he hadn't done all that much. Showed his class today."
As Bangladesh fought back from an early disaster, Bhogle also highlighted their determination: "Hugely admirable from Bangladesh. If they can drag this to 240, we might get ourselves a good game."
Eventually, Bangladesh managed to post 228 runs, just short of Bhogle’s projected target. At one stage, when Bangladesh was struggling at 35/5, Bhogle had commented: "Even though Bangladesh are still in strife, India will be disappointed at not closing this innings, especially for a side that prides itself on its fielding."
But Hridoy and Jaker's teamwork changed things around and made the match much more interesting than anyone thought it would be. In the end, when India were having trouble with their chase, Bhogle wrote: "India might still have the batting but Bangladesh are making them sweat. This is a tricky chase now."
