The Bangladesh Women’s Cricket
Team dominated Ireland in the recent ODI series, securing a 3-0 whitewash.
Sharmin Akhter Supta emerged as the star of the third match, crafting a
brilliant 72 runs off 88 balls and earning the Player of the Match award.
Behind her stellar performance lies the mentorship of renowned coach Mohammad
Salahuddin, whose guidance has been pivotal in refining her game.
Sharmin Akhter highlighted
Salahuddin's role in improving her batting technique and mental approach.
“First and foremost, trust in the coach is crucial. Sir made some technical
adjustments that initially felt uncomfortable, but I trusted the process. These
drills have significantly enhanced my game sense,” she said in the post-match
press conference.
Salahuddin, currently the senior
assistant coach for Bangladesh's men’s national team, has been a long-time
mentor for Sharmin. “For the past six months, he has provided consistent mental
support. His insights have kept me motivated and focused,” she added. Even
during the series, Salahuddin monitored her performance and shared technical
advice, showcasing his dedication to her development.
Sharmin’s return to the national
team wasn’t a stroke of luck but the result of consistent effort. While
sidelined, she maintained a rigorous practice routine and focused on addressing
weaknesses. “During domestic leagues, I worked on specific areas of improvement.
That preparation helped me perform well after rejoining the national side,” she
explained.
Sharmin also reflected on missing
out on a century in the series. “In the first match, I had a good opportunity.
However, my focus was on securing 250 runs for the team rather than personal
milestones. I will aim for a century in the upcoming series, In Sha Allah,” she
said.
Sharmin acknowledged the
inspiration she draws from her teammates, particularly Fargana Hoque, who
recently became the first Bangladeshi woman to score two international
centuries. “Fargana is incredibly patient and focused in her practice, which is
something I admire and try to emulate,” Sharmin said.
With comprehensive performances
across all matches, the Bangladesh Women’s Team displayed dominance, leaving
the Irish side struggling to keep up. This whitewash underscores the team’s
growing confidence and readiness to compete at higher levels.
