It could also be the last time fans witness the iconic "Fabulous Five”—Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mahmudullah Riyad—playing together in a global tournament. However, uncertainty looms over Shakib and Tamim’s participation due to their current status in the national team.

Despite their recent absences, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed confirmed that both Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal remain in the selectors’ plans for the Champions Trophy. Speaking to the media, Ahmed clarified that any player who has not retired is eligible for selection.

“Shakib wasn’t in the right mental state to tour the West Indies. I don’t have any updates on him. Regarding Tamim, the chief selector has said if a player hasn’t retired and the selectors feel he’s needed, they should communicate with the player,” said Faruk Ahmed.

When pressed further, the BCB president reaffirmed, “If any cricketer hasn’t retired, they are, of course, available for selection.”

Shakib Al Hasan’s absence from recent tours and Tamim Iqbal’s struggles with injuries have sparked speculation about their future roles in the national team. The Champions Trophy presents an opportunity for the duo to return to the fold, but their participation hinges on fitness, form, and alignment with the team’s strategy.
