Bangladesh has had a terrible start to the Asia Cup. The Tigers lost their first match to Sri Lanka by 5 wickets. Now the equation of Super Four has become very complicated for Bangladesh.
Batting first against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh struggled throughout the whole innings. Two openers Naim Sheikh and Tanzid Hasan Tamim were out within the team’s 25 runs. Only Najmul Hossain Shanto survived then and fought till the end. Bangladesh were all out for just 164 runs due to poor batting. Shanto scored 89 runs off 122 balls. The rest were flopped. In response, Sri Lanka reached the port of victory with 66 balls and 5 wickets in hand.
Shakib's voice also expressed regret about batting in the post-match prize distribution ceremony. Shakib said, “It wasn't a 300 wicket. 220-230 would've given us more chance. Didn't bat well as a unit. Have to regroup, have another important game in a couple of days. Needed couple more wickets when they were 3 down for 30. We picked up wickets but didn't have enough on the board. There were a lot of nerves when we started the game. Lot of guys playing Asia Cup for first time. They've been playing good cricket that's why they're in dressing room.”
After losing against the Lankans, Bangladesh's chances of going to the Super Four have decreased. Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in a must-win match on Sunday (September 3).
