Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has lost his top spot in the ICC ODI bowling rankings, a spot he had secured just last week.
In the ongoing Cricket World Cup in 2023, Indian bowlers have showcased their exceptional skills and made significant strides in the ODI (One Day International) bowler rankings.
The latest rankings show a notable shift at the top, with India's Mohammed Siraj moving up two places to become the new No.1 ODI bowler. This success marks a change at the top of the rankings, displacing Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi, who briefly held the top spot.
Mohammad Siraj has achieved a significant gain of 694 rating points and has regained his top spot. Shaheen Afridi, on the other hand, slipped to 5th place with 658 rating points.
It is worth noting that Shaheen Afridi achieved a historic milestone by taking 100 wickets in just 51 ODI matches, surpassing Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body for international cricket, acknowledged these changes on its official blog. Additionally, several of Siraj's Indian teammates have also made significant progress in the ODI bowling rankings.
Kuldeep Yadav has moved up three places to secure the fourth spot, showing the great talent of the Indian bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah has moved up three places to eighth, further highlighting India's strong bowling resources. Mohammed Shami has enjoyed a remarkable rise, moving seven places into the top 10 ODI bowlers, a testament to his effectiveness as a fast bowler.
In the current rankings, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj is ranked second, reflecting his consistent performance as a bowler in ODI cricket. Meanwhile, Australian bowler Adam Zampa is ranked third in the world, highlighting his effectiveness in the limited-overs format.
