Players from Sri Lanka who are currently in England for training ahead of the three-match test series have requested improved procedures from their cricket body because, as of Sunday, the complete test team will not have a security plan.
"Most of the issues seem not to be close to where we are but everyone is still a little concerned," one player in England told ESPNcricinfo. "We can't really go out to dinner or do anything like that. Mostly we stay in the hotel. No one wants to run into trouble and get beaten up.
"We've asked the board to try and ask for some security for us until the main team arrives, but we haven't heard anything back yet."
After reading about the unrest in Manchester, where the first test is due, Sri Lanka's squad manager Mahinda Halangoda revealed that he brought up the security concerns with the ECB.
“I raised the issue with them, and the ECB responded very quickly and sent us their comprehensive security arrangements. We’ll be having a security liaison on the tour from them as well,” Halangoda added.
The first Test match is scheduled to begin at Manchester's Old Trafford Cricket Ground on August 21st, with the second Test match scheduled to begin at London's Lord's Cricket Ground on August 29th. On September 6, the penultimate match of the series will take place at The Oval.
