Rishabh Pant, India's star wicket-keeper batter and the current captain of Delhi Capitals (DC), has ignited curiosity and sparked heated debates on social media with his latest cryptic post.
In a late-night post on X (formerly Twitter), Pant hinted at a potential entry into the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, leaving fans and franchise owners guessing. His tweet, which read, "If go to the auction, will I be sold or not and for how much??" has gone viral, stirring reactions from fans across the globe.
The post comes at a time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for the mega-auction ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Each franchise can retain up to six players, including a maximum of two uncapped stars. Pant, who led Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 season, was widely expected to be the franchise’s first retention. His sudden social media post, however, has left fans wondering whether Pant may surprise everyone by entering the auction pool.
While Pant’s tweet may have been lighthearted, it starkly contrasts with the recent statement by DC co-owner Parth Jindal, who assured fans that Pant would be retained by the franchise. Jindal, in an interview, stated, “Rishabh Pant will definitely be retained. We also have Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav, and other key players in our team.”
Pant’s cryptic post, combined with the ongoing retention discussions, has left DC supporters concerned, though many fans believe it’s unlikely that the wicket-keeper batter would be left out of the franchise's plans. If Pant were to enter the auction, DC would still have the opportunity to buy him back through the Right to Match (RTM) card or by placing the highest bid.
The India star has been in the spotlight recently, especially after making a remarkable comeback to international cricket following a life-threatening car accident in December 2022. Pant’s return to Test cricket was nothing short of spectacular, as he scored a century in his first Test against Bangladesh, marking a successful comeback. His leadership skills were also on display during India’s triumphant ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, where he led the team to victory.
