The five-time IPL winner Mumbai Indians (MI) have reportedly sent a clear message regarding their leadership ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. According to journalist Vaibhav Bola, Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the franchise in the upcoming tournament, putting an end to speculations about a potential change in captaincy.
Despite the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yet to release official updates regarding the IPL, the five-time champions' move to stick with Pandya suggests confidence in the all-rounder’s leadership skills. Pandya, who took over as MI captain after Rohit Sharma's dip in form during the IPL 2024 season, will reportedly continue in the role, aiming to bring more success to the franchise.
Rumours were spreading about a potential captaincy change, with Suryakumar Yadav being considered as a possible replacement. This was particularly true after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format following the T20 World Cup 2024. Nevertheless, the most recent reports that have confirmed Pandya's leadership appear to have eliminated these rumours.
Rohit Sharma To Join LSG ?
Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians remains a topic of discussion. The former MI captain's underwhelming IPL 2024 season led to his replacement by Pandya, sparking rumours of a possible shift to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Reports had suggested that LSG was ready to spend heavily to secure Sharma’s services, but LSG team owner Sanjiv Goenka has dismissed these claims as unfounded. “Does anybody know if Rohit Sharma is available at the auction? The entire rumour is baseless. We have to see if MI releases Rohit Sharma,” Goenka remarked.
