Before heading to the West Indies for a two-Test series, the squad may evaluate the usefulness of veterans like Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to endorse Indian Premier League (IPL) performers for the next three-format tour of the West Indies. This came after India lost the ICC World Test Championship final by a big margin against Australia yesterday.

The Shiv Sunder Das-led selection committee's priority is preparing the team's next generation of players for increased responsibility.
The upcoming month will feature two Tests, five T20 Internationals (T20Is) and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between India and the West Indies.
Hardik Pandya will captain the team in the T20Is against the West Indies, and he plans to use Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma in his lineup. Rinku and Jitesh were the regular performers in the last IPL throughout the whole season for Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings.
"You need to strike a balance. Selection is a process of elimination but you need that blend of youth and experience. The idea should be long-term and you have to look at a two- year cycle now.
"I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal is ready for international cricket. He has scored double hundreds in Ranji, Irani and Duleep Trophy. Looks solid in terms of temperament and could be groomed while being given enough chances to grow," former national selector Devang Gandhi told PTI.
Similarly, the excellent IPL seasons of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jaiswal are said to be rewarded with selection for T20Is against West Indies. Mohit Sharma, who finished the IPL 2023 with 27 wickets, is also making headlines.
The West Indies tour kicks off a new WTC cycle, with the primary goal being the incorporation of younger players.
