The BCCI began the process on Monday, May 13, to choose the senior men's cricket team's next head coach. The application deadline is May 27, which is also the day of the IPL final.
The BCCI wants the new coach to handle all three formats of the game and be with the team for most of the year. But it's not sure if Fleming will apply because it's required a big commitment.
Highly-placed sources within the BCCI view Fleming as a suitable candidate to succeed Rahul Dravid, especially with India likely to enter a period of transition across all formats in the coming years. Fleming's exceptional man-management skills, ability to create a positive environment, and impressive success rate at CSK make him an attractive option for the role.
Informal discussions about Fleming's potential appointment have already taken place during the IPL. Despite this, the 51-year-old has not communicated any desire to leave CSK, with the franchise preferring him to extend his stay.
Fleming has established himself as a successful T20 coach, having coached various franchises around the globe, including Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League and Joburg Super Kings and Texas Super Kings in other T20 leagues. Additionally, he serves as the head coach of Southern Brave in The Hundred.
