Earlier, Arif Abbasi had accused Basit Ali of being directly involved in match-fixing, and according to the former PCE CEO, the accused cricketer had admitted the point of getting involved in match-fixing 25 years ago on a tour to
in 1994 in front of the former team manager Intikhab Alam.
However, Basit Ali recently in a video interview has declined all these allegations and said that he would be ready to die if a court order proving his crime could be found. He also claimed that Alam's corroboration of Abbasi's accusation was misquoted.
“I got a phone call from Intikhab Alam and he told me that he has nothing to do with what’s being associated with him in the media. However, whether it’s Arif Abbasi or someone else, if anyone can prove match-fixing against me in any court of the world, I should be hanged,”
Basit Ali was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
To be noted, the former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali played in 19 Tests and 50 ODIs from 1993 to 1996. He was appreciated by many to have an alike batting technique as Javed Miandad. He was capable of damaging any bowling attack on his day and has the relatively unusual statistic of having a higher ODI than Test batting average.
