Rachin Ravindra, the emerging kiwi star, made a grand entrance on the global cricket scene by crafting a splendid century in his debut match at the ICC Men's World Cup 2023. This extraordinary feat not only propelled his team into a dominant position but also etched his name into the history books. He has broken a 27-years record after he becomes the youngest New Zealand batter to score a world cup hundred. He holds this record at the age of 23 years and 321 days. Previously, Nathon Astle scored a ton in 1996 against the same opponent when he was 24 years and 132 days of age.
Interestingly, Devon Conway, in the world cup opener, broke Martin Guptill’s 88-ball record (settled in world cup 2015) for the fastest ODI world cup hundred by a New Zealander. He completed his century in 83 balls.
After a few moments, Ravindra surpassed Convey’s record and smashed his maiden 82-balls hundred and registered his name in the record book as the fastest New Zealand’s century-maker in a 50-over world cup history. In addition, Rachin Ravindra is now third in the world to achieve this feat after Andy Flower and Virat Kohli who were 23 years & 301 day and 22 years, 106 days old respectively. He is 13th youngest overall.
Rachin Ravindra is also the 18th batter in One-Day International world cup history to get a three-figure mark in the debut match.
