India has held the prized Border-Gavaskar Trophy since 2015, successfully defending it in the past two Test series in Australia. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri is certain that India would continue to dominate Australia in the forthcoming five-match Test series, which begins in November 2024.

The anticipation for this series is palpable, especially with the legendary rivalry between the teams intensifying over the last decade. India’s triumphs in 2018-19 and 2020-21 have made them a formidable force in Test cricket, especially Down Under, where they have consistently outplayed the hosts. However, Shastri is aware that the Australian team, under the leadership of Pat Cummins, will be eager to reclaim the trophy they last won in 2015.

"Remember, India has beaten Australia twice on the last two tours, and Australia has not had a hand on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in almost a decade. That's the reason why everyone will be waiting for these two heavyweights of Test match cricket over the last five to eight years to go head-to-head," Shastri stated, highlighting the significance of the upcoming series.

Shastri’s comments come in response to former Australian captain Ricky Ponting’s recent prediction that Australia would emerge victorious with a 3-1 series win.

"We know what Australia will be wanting (revenge). They will be thirsty, they'd be looking to go at the throats of the Indians because they've been beaten there (in Australia) twice.

The former coach emphasised the strength of the Australian bowling attack, which includes world-class talents like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and the seasoned spinner Nathan Lyon. Shastri acknowledged the challenge but expressed confidence in India's ability to stand up to the Aussie quicks.

"The attack is pretty much the same. One of the greatest fast bowling attacks -- (one of the greatest) all-round attacks when you add Nathan Lyon there -– in a long, long time. And one of the best in the history of the game. They'll be looking for those 20 wickets, game after game to help Australia win the series."

"It's going to be India's batting against the Australian fast bowlers. And of course, the Indian bowling attack is going to be something everyone will be waiting to see" he added.
