Afghanistan have appointed Rashid Khan as their T20I captain for a second term ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Najibullah Zadran has been named as Rashid's deputy.
Rashid captained Afghanistan in seven T20Is in 2019 and won four of them. He was given the role from Asghar Afghan, whom he was replaced again. The 22-year-old was an all-format captain immediately after the 2019 World Cup exit. Arguably, best result was winning an away Test againt Bangladesh in Chattogram.
"Rashid was selected by senior ACB leadership led by ACB Chairman Farhan Yousefzai, for the role considering his experience, brilliant performance as well as leadership skills with the National team over the years," ACB said in a statement.
Afghanistan recently decided to adopt split-captaincy, sacking Asghar to hand Test and ODI captaincy to top-order batter Hashmatullah Shahidi. The T20I role was undecided and eventually they have returned to poster-boy Rashid.
In 51 T20Is, Rashid has 95 wickets at a stunning average of 12.63, an economy of 6.21 and a strike rate of 12.1. He will play a key role in the T20 World Cup in the Middle East where Afghanistan are placed in Super 12 Group B with India, South Africa, England and two qualifying teams.
