Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is set to represent Rangpur Riders in the inaugural Global Super League, a prestigious tournament featuring five teams from five different cricket leagues worldwide. As the only Bangladeshi team in the competition, Rangpur carries the hopes of a cricket-loving nation, and Rishad feels the weight of those expectations.
“I feel the same excitement as when the Bangladesh team competes in global tournaments. Rangpur Riders are carrying the dreams of 18 crore (180 million) people. I will try my best to perform well,” said Rishad.
Although he understands the significance of the tournament, Rishad is cautious about setting overly ambitious goals.
“I haven’t set any specific targets for the tournament. I want to take it match by match and stick to a normal game plan. Since our opponents are from four different leagues, I’ll try to give my best in each game. After the World Cup, I’ve been working on several aspects like variations and line and length. Hopefully, I can deliver good performances,” Rishad said.
Beyond his leg-spin skills, Rishad is also a capable batter, focusing on playing to his strengths rather than overcomplicating his approach.
“I don’t try anything extraordinary with my batting. I stick to my strengths. There’s always room for improvement. Of course, performing well here could open doors to other leagues, but I’m just focusing on doing my best,” Rishad explained humbly.
Rishad’s performance in the Global Super League could indeed attract attention from franchise scouts worldwide. But for now, he’s keeping his focus on the tournament and representing Rangpur Riders with pride.
