Afghanistan got a historic victory in the match against England in the World Cup. In that match, Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a great innings of 80 runs from 57 balls and made an important contribution to the team's victory. However, he has been punished by the highest body of cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC), for his misconduct in that match.
Gurbaz was run out after playing a brilliant innings in the match against England. But the wicket-keeper batter seemed dissatisfied. After being run out, Gurbaz went back to the dressing room fuming with anger. While leaving the field, he hit the boundary rope hard with the bat. Later, Gurbaz was seen hitting a chair in the dugout with the bat. Gurbaz came to the attention of ICC after such an incident.
In this incident, Gurbaz violated the Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
By causing this incident, Gurbaz broke level one of the ICC Code of Contact. As a result, Gurbaz was punished with 1 demerit point by match referee Jeff Crowe. Gurbaz admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed.
Gurbaz got this first demerit point in 24 months. If the cricketers get four demerit points, they have to be banned from 1 Test or 2 ODI matches.
