A tragic incident shocked the cricketing world as Pakistan-origin cricketer Junaid Zafar Khan collapsed and died while playing a local club match in Adelaide, Australia. The unfortunate event occurred on March 15, 2025, at the Concordia College Oval during a match between Old Concordians and Prince Alfred Old Collegians.

Junaid in his 40s had been residing in Adelaide since 2013 after moving from Pakistan to pursue a career in the tech industry while also nurturing his passion for cricket. He was fielding for 40 overs and had batted for seven when he collapsed at approximately 4 pm ACDT, with the temperature reaching an extreme 41.7°C.
Despite receiving immediate medical attention from paramedics Junaid tragically could not be revived. The extreme heat conditions at the venue likely played a role as matches in the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association are canceled if temperatures rise above 42°C.
The Old Concordians Cricket Club expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss of Junaid. In a statement, the club said, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of a valued member of the Old Concordians Cricket Club, who tragically suffered a medical episode while playing on the Concordia College oval today. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly did not survive. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time."
Junaid's passing has left his teammates and friends heartbroken, and the cricketing community in Adelaide mourns the loss of a passionate player.
