From nearing elimination in the Super 12 stage to reaching the final of the 2022 ICC T20 Men's World Cup, Pakistan has bounced back in style. The Men in Green defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final of SCG on Wednesday night for a possible showdown with India or England at the MCG on Sunday.
If we look at the previous games, including today's, it seems like history is repeating itself, because this year's T20 World Cup saw many similarities, just like the 1992 World Cup.
Back in 1992, Pakistan struggled to get off to a perfect start when they lost the opening game of the World Cup at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The Men in Green also lost their opening game at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in this year's T20 World Cup.
Pakistan, led by Imran Khan, was also defeated by India in their group match. Whereas Babar Azam's team was also defeated by India in the group match.
Both sides struggled in their time to qualify for the semi-finals, but they made it by winning their last three straight group stage games.
Another similarity we can see is that just one point difference has got us closer to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Now here we see great coincidences, Imran Khan's team met and defeated New Zealand in the semi-finals of the 1992 World Cup to reach the historic final.
Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, also defeated New Zealand in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup and advanced to the final.
England defeated India today and reached the final of the mega event. However, the only thing we see in common here is that England defeated South Africa (D/L) in 1992 to reach the final of the World Cup.
As history repeats itself, can we see England exact their 30-year revenge, or will the men in green take us back to the Cup-winning days, just like in 1992?
