The fourth T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand was abandoned due to rain spoiled the game at Rawalpindi on Thursday 20 April 2023.
The fourth T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand on Thursday night at Pindi Cricket Stadium was abandoned due to rain, with the hosts leading the five-game series 2-1, and the final game is due to be played at the same venue on April 24.
The fourth match between Pakistan and New Zealand was played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After winning the toss, Pakistani captain Babar Azam decided to bowl first. But rain knocked during New Zealand's innings, preventing the inning from completing. New Zealand batted a total of 18.5 overs in which they scored 164 runs while losing five wickets.
After being asked to bat first, the Kiwis lost three wickets in seven overs with 54 runs on the board. All three wickets went to left-arm spinner Imad Wasim – who not only bowled economically on the batting power play, but also bagged two wickets on the power play.
The left-hander finished with match figures of 4-0-19-3, including wickets from Captain Tom Latham (13, 8b, 3x4s), Will Young (6, 8b, 1x4) and Daryl Michell (3, 6b).
That the tourists managed to score 164 for five points in 18.5 overs before rain set in to play a spoilsport was largely due to the half-century of opening batter Chad Bowes (54, 38b, 7x4s, 1x6) and an unbeaten 71 off 42 balls from Mark Chapman. The in-form Chapman, who was 34, 65 not out and 16 not out in the three games played so far in the series, hit 10 fours and a six in tonight's innings.
The hailstorm is something that was unexpected especially during the summer season in Pakistan. It drew mixed reactions from fans who, while excited to see something unusual, were also disappointed they missed out on seeing all the cricket action.
