The pitch of Cape Town's Newlands helped the pacers to dominate the match. The dominance of the pacers in the match was so evident that there was no need for the spinners. The spinners did not bowl a single ball in the entire match. The Pacers took all of the 33 wickets that fell in the match. In the first innings, India's Mohammed Siraj took 6 wickets, South Africa were bowled out for just 55 runs.
After that, India got all out for 153 runs. They lost their last 6 wickets for 0 runs. Later, South Africa scored 176 runs in the second innings, leaving India with a target of 79 runs to win. Rohit Sharma's team reached the port of victory with 7 wickets in hand. This Test match ended in just one and a half days. At the end of the game, however, Rohit was frustrated about the pitch. According to him, if such a pitch is fine then India's turning wicket should also be fine.
Finally, the ICC has heard Rohit's words. The pitch at Newlands has been assessed as 'unsatisfactory' by the ICC's pitch and outfield monitoring process. Match referee Chris Broad and the match officials expressed dissatisfaction with the pitch in their report. According to Broad, "The pitch in Newlands was very difficult to bat on. The ball bounced quickly and sometimes alarmingly throughout the match, making it difficult to play shots. Several batters were hit on the gloves and many wickets also fell due to the awkward bounce."
1 demerit point has been given to the Cape Town pitch as per the rules. If 6 demerit points are received within 5 years, the venue will be banned for 1 year. Cricket South Africa can appeal the decision within 14 days.
