Bangladesh won the U19 World Cup for the first time in 2020. Head coach Naveed Nawaz was the mastermind behind the U19 team's world victory. Naveed has taken up the role of head coach of the under-19 team once more upon his return to Bangladesh. He wants to find the very talented youth of the country and use them.
Talking to the media in Mirpur, Naveed said, “After 2 years, very much excited. It's one thing that I've noticed while I was here last time was the flow of talent in the country, which is very, very deep and has a lot of depth, the talent that the country is producing. I look forward to going around Bangladesh, probably try and see what are the new talents that we can find all over the country. Basically, excited to work with Bangladesh cricket again after a couple of years.”
In response to the question of what will be the plan around the team, Naveed added, “The plan is very simple. Because we know what type of cricket the Under-19 boys play all over the world. We have seen that over the years and there has been a lot of visibility through media and through different channels. My first job would be to sit with the selectors and probably go through the spots to see what are the puzzles that match and what type of talent we have to make up a great team which can win. And yeah, so understanding the world talent and try and put in all the benchmarks in our players to try and reach there in two years. That's what we did before. And that's the key that in two years we have to see ourselves that a team that is part to no other, a team that can compare it any other country without any fear. That's my plan to build in the next two years.”
The next U19 World Cup will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2026.
