Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangaluru by 7 wickets and 19 balls to spare on Friday (29th March) at M Chinnaswami Cricket Stadium. Blistering 47 from Narine and Venkatesh Iyer's quick-fire fifty gave them an easy win over RCB.
The opening stand between Narine and Salt set the tone for KKR in the big chase.
Earlier, KKR won the toss and opted to field first. Coming out to bowl, they removed Du Plessis earlier. Green and Kohli then tried to salvage the situation and they strung a partnership of 65 runs before Russell rattled the stumps of Green for 33 off 21. Maxwell hit for a while in a nervy stay but couldn’t prolong the innings as Narine removed him.
However Kohli steered the ship for RCB and he led the way for RCB to 182-6. He played a magnificent knock of 83 off 59 balls. For KKR, Dre Russ was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up two wickets after conceding only 29 runs on a belter. Mitchell Starc had another off colored day as he went wicketless and conceded 47 runs.
In reply, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine killed the game in the powerplay. Both of them bludgeoned the RCB bowlers at bay and raced their way to 85 off the powerplay. Sunil Narine ripped through RCB bowlers and blazed a glorious 47 off 22 balls. Phil Salt scored a fine 30 off 20 deliveries.
After the arrival of Venkatesh, he kept the scoring rate going at light speed and notched up a composed fifty. At the backend of the innings, skipper Shreyas Iyer's 39 off 24 balls helped KKR chase down the total comfortably.
KKR becomes the first team to win a match away from home in this season of IPL, as the previous all matches went in the favour of home team.
