World cricket's legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan predicts that India, Australia and England are the top contenders to win the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, scheduled to begin on October 5. He also points out that other teams have the potential to join the competition and make it exciting with the chance of winning the prestigious trophy.
Muttiah Muralitharan's biopic 800 is gearing up for release on October 6 and in a recent interview on Thursday, he expressed his enthusiasm for the film. Also, the legendary Sri Lankan spinner makes his semi-final selection for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
In a cricketing world full of excitement ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, Sri Lanka's legendary spin maestro Muttiah Muralitharan has given his predictions for the semi-finalists of the tournament. Muralitharan is known for his cricketing wisdom and unparalleled spin bowling expertise. His insights have added even more excitement to the build-up to this prestigious event.
The former cricketer also recalled that luck plays a big role in all mega tournaments. He recalled that in the 2019 edition, New Zealand were favorites to win the trophy, but luck favored England as the Eoin Morgan-led side won their first-ever ODI World Cup.
“So I would say India, England, Australia and the fourth team can be anyone. These three have more chances. But you never know; Cricket is all about luck. As seen in the last World Cup, we thought New Zealand would win and with a bit of luck England won the cup,” Muralitharan was quoted as saying by India Today.
The veteran spinner believes that all teams from the subcontinent will have an upper hand in the tournament and will have a good group of spin bowlers.
“Definitely, the teams from the subcontinent will have an advantage due to the spin-friendly wickets and their batters are used to playing spin,” the former cricketer added.
Muralidaran was the youngest cricketer to have his biography made. Talking about the same, the Kandy-born cricketer stated that he was happy and quite excited about it and also thanked the makers for making a film on him. Muralidaran also clarified that he read the script of the film and ensured that there was no masala in it but only facts.
“I am very excited and happy. Thank you to everyone who made it possible. I don't want to give away but it's not entirely based on my cricket career. It's 20 percent cricket and 80 percent human story. It’s about the obstacles I faced in life and how I overcame them,” he added.
