Mumbai beat Punjab by 9 runs despite a Ashutosh Sharma storm
A blistering 78 from Suryakumar Yadav and vital contributions from Rohit and Tilak Varma helped Mumbai Indians post 192 runs on the board. In reply, Mumbai Indians skittle Punjab to be crumbling on 77-6, however Ashutosh Sharma's swashbuckling knock showed them a ray hope but couldn’t win it for Punjab.

Mumbai Indians beat Punjab Kings by 9 runs on a thrilling macth at Mullanpur on Thursday (18th April). A blistering 78 from Suryakumar Yadav and vital contributions from Rohit and Tilak Varma helped Mumbai Indians post 192 runs on the board. In reply, Mumbai Indians skittle Punjab to be crumbling on 77-6, however Ashutosh Sharma's swashbuckling knock showed them a ray hope but couldn’t win it for Punjab.
Mumbai have risen to number 7 from 9th position with this vital victory.
Being invited to bat first, Rohit gave Mumbai a flying start. Though Ishan Kishan got out earlier but Rohit and Suryakumar kept the ship going. The duo added 81 runs on 3rd wicket partnership which laid the platform for Mumbai Indians. Rohit fell to Sam Curran on 36, but Surya was going strongly to bring up a fifty. He made a fine 78 off just 53 balls. Tilak Varma played a cameo innings to post 192 runs on the board, Tilak scored 34 off only 18 balls.
In reply, Punjab Kings were at bay infront of the onburst of Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee. They ran riot through the Punjab Kings batting lineup. Coetzee got Prabahasimran for a golden duck, and then Bumrah removed Sam Curran for 6, Bumrah came once again to knock over Riley Rossow, Coetzee had Livingstone and Punjab were on the verge of gliding down inside the powerplay.
But it was once again Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma who showed them the way. The duo was dealing with boundaries and Shashank scored 41 from 25 balls before getting out to Jasprit Bumrah.
And then it became a one man show, Ashutosh Sharma took the onus on his shoulders to up the ante. He brought up a brilliant fifty of 23 balls to keep fighting in the chase. But Coetzee came in the death overs to remove him and hence the chase was done for Punjab. They were shy off 9 runs only.
Bumrah and Coetzee picked up 3 wickets each to set up Mumbai's excellent win ovet Punjab Kings.
