India's fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has added another feather to his cap, this time off the cricket field. The Hyderabad-born cricketer was officially appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana, an honor bestowed upon him by the state's government in recognition of his stellar performance for India in recent international tournaments including most recent India's t20 world cup triumph. Siraj took charge on Friday and will report directly to the Director General of Police (DGP).
Mohammed Siraj’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a government officer and an international cricket star is nothing short of inspirational. The son of an auto-rickshaw driver, Siraj rose through the ranks with hard work, determination, and dedication to his craft. His journey from the local cricket fields of Hyderabad to the global stage serves as a motivating story for aspiring cricketers across the nation.
The decision to appoint Siraj as a DSP was made by Telangana's Chief Minister, following his crucial role in India’s victory in the T20 World Cup this past June. Siraj was the sole representative from Telangana in the winning squad and has continued to excel in various formats of the game, including playing for India in the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup.
The right-arm pacer has had a successful international career, representing India in 29 Test matches, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20 Internationals. Over the course of his career, he has taken an impressive 163 wickets across all formats, further solidifying his place as one of India’s premier fast bowlers.
Siraj’s appointment as DSP places him among a distinguished group of Indian cricketers who have been recognized with prestigious government posts. Former Indian captain MS Dhoni holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, while cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar holds an honorary rank in the Indian Air Force. Another notable figure, Joginder Sharma, who played a key role in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup victory, serves as a permanent DSP in Haryana.
