India pacer Mohammed Shami is probably going to return to action for India in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
During the ODI World Cup last year, Shami was on fire for India. For the team captained by Rohit Sharma, the right-arm pacer claimed 23 wickets in 7 games, making him the tournament's top wicket-taker. However, an injury has kept him out of action ever since.
Shami had surgery on her ankle in February 2024, and he has been recovering ever since. Shami began his bowling at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, using the nets.
The selectors have been informed of Shami's progress and will shortly decide whether or not to allow him to participate in at least one of the Duleep Trophy matches, which kick off in Anantapur on September 5 to demonstrate his fitness.
While participating in some informal motivational and conditioning exercises for the state players in Kolkata late last month, Shami had stated his desire to play for Bengal before rejoining the national squad.
Whether Mohammed Shami is fir and available to play against Bangladesh will be interesting to see. Depending on his preparedness and fitness levels as determined by the NCA, a decision on this will be taken shortly.
