Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir again announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday, December 14. He had ended his retirement earlier this year to participate in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Amir has once again announced his retirement from international cricket, following in the footsteps of his friend Imad Wasim, who ended his football career a day earlier.
Notably, Amir returned to international cricket after retiring in March 2024 and represented the national team in the series against New Zealand after a gap of three years and eight months.
Amir, the 32-year-old from Gujjar Khan, has played in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is for Pakistan since his international debut in June 2009. Amir has taken 271 international wickets and scored 1,179 runs in all three formats.
"It has been a great honour to play for Pakistan in all three formats. I know this is a difficult decision but I feel now is the right time for the next generation to take up the baton and take Pakistan's cricket to a new level.
"I would like to thank the PCB for always giving me the much-needed support over the years and I look forward to seeing the team excel. I would also like to thank the Pakistani fans for always supporting me throughout my career."
Amir and Imad have been key members of the Pakistan national cricket team over the years and also represented the Pakistan U19 team earlier in their respective careers. Amir was part of the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup winning side, while both of them, along with Imad, were integral parts of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy winning side.
Sumair Ahmad Syed, Chief Operating Officer of the PCB: “On behalf of the PCB, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Amir and Imad for their services to Pakistani cricket and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”
