Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev has come up with valuable words of advice for Mohammed Siraj. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain reckons that the right-arm pacer gets carried away with short-pitched deliveries. It is cognizance of the fact that the batsmen get the upper hand while facing the short-pitched balls.
Mohammed SirajIt gives them extra bit of time to play the shots as the bowlers often get punished for such deliveries. However, at the same time, the former Indian skipper highlighted that Mohammed Siraj has got great potential before advising the bowler to reduce short-pitched deliveries as he gets carried away a bit during the games.
Ever since Jasprit Bumrah has been out of the Indian cricket team in recent months, Mohammed Siraj has been leading the bowling attack by example. Siraj drew plaudits for his bowling spells across formats and is mostly likely to be added to the squads for the upcoming major tournaments for India.
When Kapil Dev was asked to express his views on Siraj, he told the Times of India, “I think he has got great potential. But I also feel he gets carried away with short-pitch deliveries. Yes, it is an important weapon for a fast bowler. When I saw India playing the WTC final, Siraj was bowling too many short-pitch deliveries whereas the Australian bowlers were pitching it up."
"Siraj has so much ability. But he has to analyze and see how many short-pitch deliveries fetch him wickets. He has the wicket-taking ability, but he has to execute his plans better,” he further added in a statement.
Mohammed Siraj has represented the Indian national cricket team in 21 Tests, 24 ODIs and 8 T20Is so far. He took 59 wickets in the longest format including 4 four-wicket hauls and 2 five-wicket hauls. On the other hand, he accounted for 43 dismissals in the 50-over format including 2 four-wicket hauls.
The right-arm paceman took eleven wickets in Twenty20 Internationals including 1 four-wicket haul. Siraj performed decently well in the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia wherein he recorded bowling figures of 4/108 and 1/80 in the first and second innings.
