Sri Lanka have fought back strongly on day two of third Test. Fifties from Pathum Nissanka, Dhananjaya De Silva and Kamindu Mendis helped Sri Lanka give a solid fight-back after collapsing at the top order.
Kamindu Mendis and Dhananjaya De Silva stitched an unbeaten *118 run stand to give Sri Lanka the upper hand. England resumed the day on 221/3 hoping to pile up runs but that didn’t happen as Ollie Pope carried England till his individual 154, added 51 runs to his overnight tally. England suffered a severe collapse as they lost 7 wickets adding only 104 runs to end up on 325.
Sri Lankan bowlers made a great comeback this morning. Milan Rathnayake picked up 3 wickets, while Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara and Dhananjaya De Silva all shared two wickets each.
In reply, Sri Lanka's innings started poorly as Dimuth Karunaratne fell in run-out. Chris Woakes then removed Kusal Mendis, with Olly Stone drew the next bloods picking up Angelo Mathews and Wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Chandimal on 3 and duck.
Opener Pathum Nissanka played a brilliant knock as he smashed 64 off just 51 deliveries with Dhananjaya De Silva and Kamindu Mendis stitched a glorious partnership of 118* runs stand.
