South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada has been named Player of the Series after his impressive 14-wicket haul helped South Africa achieve a clean sweep against Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. The final match concluded with South Africa defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs in Dhaka, capping off a commanding performance by the visitors.
Reflecting on the series, Rabada acknowledged the team's resilience and adaptability, especially after a tough start. "Losing the toss at Dhaka wasn’t the greatest start, but we could turn it around. The batters did incredibly well to put us in position. Every individual in this team is willing to put their hands up. And different individuals are putting their hands up. That’s why we are on top in this series," Rabada said, highlighting the team’s spirit and collective effort.
South Africa’s batters established a strong foundation, posting an impressive 575/6 declared in the first innings. Tony de Zorzi stood out with a stellar knock of 177 runs, supported by contributions from Tristan Stubbs (106) and Wiaan Mulder (105*). Bangladesh struggled in response, bowled out for 159 in their first innings and 143 in the second, despite notable resistance from Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto. Senuran Muthusamy and Keshav Maharaj bolstered South Africa’s bowling effort, with Muthusamy claiming four wickets and Maharaj taking five in Bangladesh’s second innings.
When asked about his personal achievement and No. 1 Test bowling ranking, Rabada commented, "The game moves on. You have to keep working hard. I don’t look at where I’m at on the rankings, but it’s a great achievement and a good motivator to keep going." Rabada's humility and dedication underscore the hard work that has helped him become one of the most formidable bowlers in modern Test cricket.
