Joe Root continues to cement his legacy as one of the modern-day greats in Test cricket. The prolific England batter is closing in on the 13,000 Test run milestone, having amassed 1556 runs in 31 innings at an average of 55.57 this year. Root's six centuries, including a career-best 262 against Pakistan in Multan, saw him equal India's Rahul Dravid with 36 Test hundreds, a joint-fifth-highest feat in the format. This marks the fifth time Root has crossed the 1000-run mark in a calendar year, further solidifying his position as a mainstay in England’s batting lineup.

Harry Brook, England’s young batting sensation, made a strong case for himself in the longest format. The 25-year-old scored 1100 runs at a strike rate of 85.00, including four centuries and three fifties. Brook’s memorable year was highlighted by his maiden triple-century, joining an elite list of England players to achieve this feat. A significant portion of Brook's runs came in away conditions, demonstrating his adaptability and resilience. His career-best score of 317 further solidified his reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in Test cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah, India's pace spearhead, had an exceptional year, finishing with a staggering 71 wickets across 13 Tests, making him the highest wicket-taker in 2024. His standout performance came in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, where he claimed 30 wickets in four matches, outshining his competitors, including Australian captain Pat Cummins. Bumrah also led India in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma in a historic Test win in Perth, where India triumphed by 295 runs.
