Pakistan’s dismal performance in the recently-concluded first Test against England has sparked heavy criticism, with former cricketer Rashid Latif making headlines for a highly controversial comment. During a discussion on his YouTube channel 'Caught Behind', Latif shocked viewers and experts alike with his remarks about Joe Root's innings, using an inappropriate phrase to describe Root’s dominance over the Pakistani team.
England set a record-breaking total of 823/7 declared, largely thanks to an incredible partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook. Root scored a dazzling 262, while Brook made history with a mammoth 317-run knock.the home team suffered an innings defeat—by 47 runs—after scoring 500 in their first innings. This marked the first time in the 147-year history of Test cricket that a team lost despite posting 500 runs in the first innings.
While reflecting on Joe Root’s performance, Rashid Latif's analysis took an unexpected turn. Latif said, “Joe Root has raped you, man,” leaving co-host Niaz and the audience in shock. The comment stirred immediate controversy online, with fans and cricket experts criticizing the inappropriate language.
"Our players play in the air. English players play on the ball's pitch. Note that when there is a ball on the middle stump, Joe Root will play it straight. Even if it is an inswing, he will try to play it straight. Our players put their foot forward the moment the ball is released," Latif added.
We are talking about Joe Root. Joe Root has raped you," said Rashid Latif
"Talking about Joe Root, he is a classical example. Technically, he is a very sound player. He has already scored most runs (Tests) for England. His technique is very good," said Rashid Latif.
"They were enjoying the game. They had a calculation. They had a target. They were having fun. They were reversing, paddling. They totally destroyed your cricket.
"I don't know about the future results but today is one of the most shameful days of Pakistan cricket," said Latif.
