On Sunday night, India cricketer Jasprit Bumrah flew back to Mumbai leaving the Asia Cup match against Nepal in Sri Lanka, to see the glimpse of his first child, a baby boy, his wife Sanjana Ganesan delivered.

"Our little family has grown & our hearts are fuller than we could ever imagine! This morning we welcomed our little boy, Angad Jasprit Bumrah into the world. We are over the moon and can’t wait for everything this new chapter of our lives brings with it ❤️ - Jasprit and Sanjana,” the couple posted a message on social media.

If Angad is indeed the name of the newborn baby boy, obviously it was pre-decided. 

In 2015, India’s then-cricket captain MS Dhoni discovered he had become a father for the first time – via text message. Dhoni had then skipped the birth of his daughter (Ziva) his wife Sakshi delivered but stayed on tour to compete in the World Cup in Australia, saying: “I am on national duties, so I think everything else can wait.”

However, five years later, the same dilemma faced another Indian cricket captain. But this time, Virat Kohli had put his family before his profession and returned to India.

In 2018, the current captain Rohit Sharma also returned home to be with his wife (Ritika Sajdeh) and born baby girl. He had to miss the Sydney Test match.

Bumrah's return for the birth of his first child has sparked fresh criticism in the media.

“@Jaspritbumrah93 kuch to sharam karle. Pahle injury ka bahana karke bahar tha. Ab biwi aur bacche ke chakkar me match nhi khel raha hai," said one fan on social media.

The another fan, in his support, said, "Let us respect their individual choices as these moments are deeply personal, we can't truly fathom the emotions they carry.  “

Bumrah is, however, expected to return for the Super Four stage of the tournament.
